Samhain - Halloween

Pumpkins were traditionally used to ward off Evil Spirits

Samhain is a Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter or the "darker half" of the year. Traditionally, it is celebrated from 31 October to 1 November, as the Celtic day began and ended at sunset. This is about halfway between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice.

The Pagans marked Samhain as the most significant of the four quarterly fire festivals, taking place at the midpoint between the fall equinox and the winter solstice. During this time of year, hearth fires in family homes were left to burn out while the harvest was gathered.

The Veil Between The Spiritual World & Earth is at its Thinnest on Samhain

At this very magickal and special time of the year the veil between the human, earthly world and the spiritual world is very thin making communication with our ancestors, loved ones in the Spiritual World much easier. It is a time when we give thanks to the Spirit for all they do for us. We give thanks for all that we are provided with especially for the guidance we are given throughout our lives from the Spirit.

This is a time to light the candles, dance around burning fires and invoke the spiritual world, inviting them to come close and commune with us. It is a time to shut out the mundane physical world and move closer to the spirit both within us and the spirit world which is all around us

A Little Samhain Ritual for you to do tonight:

  • Find a quiet place where you can relax and not be disturbed.

  • Turn off all other lighting ( have candle light only)

  • Light an Orange or Black candle or both.

  • Burn Pine Incense ( if you have it) or essential oils of Clove, Cinnamon, Orange & Frankincense (or whatever oils you have handy which you like)

  • Put your grounding in place & connect to Mother Earth

  • Put your protection in place

  • Send a thought to the Spirit Ask for your loved ones to come close who you would like to send love to.

  • Ask that you feel them & sense them, give them permission to join you.

  • Keep an open mind to what might happen

  • Relax and sit for as long as you feel comfortable connecting to the beautiful energy of the Spiritual World

  • When you have finished, send a thought of thanks to the Spiritual People who have joined you and to the spiritual world

  • Ground your energy reinforce your protection

  • Gently put out the flame of the candles, make sure you do this very gently with a flame extinguisher so you do not blow out the element of fire as this is considered disrespectful.

  • Allow you incense or oils to burn out in a safe place

  • You are now complete

  • Enjoy your Samhain Celebrations
